Salem For Refugees believes that housing is a social determinant of health; that is to say, where and how people live impacts quality of life. Our goal for resettlement is to empower refugees to thrive; based on this, housing is a vital part of our work.

Housing continues to be a challenge for refugees in the US and Salem is no different. In addition to a shortage of available units, the units that are available are not always financially sustainable for our new neighbors. We see many households paying over 50% of their monthly income on rent expenses. This can lead to stagnant economic growth for families who are forced to live on edge, paycheck to paycheck.

With that in mind, Salem For Refugees is in the planning stages of developing housing designed specifically to address the needs of refugees.
